Weekly Question: "Can We Make Large Chunks Of Money In Short Periods Of Time?"
Aug 16, 2024"My program will help you make millions of dollars overnight"
How often do we hear this promise in one form or another?
How realistic is it?
To many, they shut down when they hear these kinds of sentences. They are right.
However, this week's question will explore whether or not there's any truth to the claim and whether or not it's realistic to make large sums of money.
At face value, my initial response is "BS"
There is no real such thing as "overnight success".
It reminds me of a quote I once heard "My overnight success took 20 years to come true"
What many people don't see is all the hard work, investment, and intention that went on behind the scenes of this "overnight success".
However, this isn't the purpose or main topic of this discussion.
The topic I want to explore with you is whether or not it's possible to earn large amounts of money in short periods of time without robbing a bank or manipulating someone into something against their will.
The answer is yes and no.
It really does depend.
Allow me to demonstrate this through a story before I explain what it depends on.
A few years back, I used to publish a periodic magazine which was distributed to its readers for free. The way we would make money was through advertising.
For the first two runs, I did all the sales for the ads and it was extremely taxing on me. It isn't easy to sell advertising that will cover your costs of publishing, printing, and distributing a magazine. But I did it anyway, and I managed to cover the costs.
However, to sustainably continue the publication, I was going to need help. I decided to hire a sales professional to be in charge of selling the ad space.
In an interview, one of the candidates blew me away. It was a life lesson that I hold to this very day.
When I asked him if he had a plan or strategy on how he was going to sell the ad spaces he told me "Sure, I plan on selling wholesale"
Wholesale?
"What do you mean by Wholesale?"
"I'm going to go to a handful of businesses and sell them a year's worth of ad spaces. I'll focus on volume rather than 'one-offs'"
Wow!
This is what brings me to my share today.
Find a product or service that you can sell at a discounted rate to a large group of people who you would later be able to upgrade to a larger or high-priced program.
For example:
Sell a course to a group of 40 employees working for one organization and at a later point, upgrade them to the coaching program.
Let's do some math:
If the online course costs $1000 - that's 1000 x 40 = $40,000
At a later time, you can upgrade them to the $10,000/yr coaching program - 10,000 x 40 = $400,000
This is how seasoned salespeople sell.
The trick is to learn how to sell at this level. But that's a topic for another discussion. For now, I just wanted to demonstrate that there is a way to sell wholesale and make large chunks of money in a short period of time.
"Hey, Yermi, before you go, can you just briefly explain what you meant by 'depends' when you brought up this topic?"
Sure, I hoped you'd ask.
It depends on the preparation you have done to come to this point.
Just because you think you have a great product that can sell to a large group of people in one shot - doesn't necessarily mean that they will find it as valuable. You will need to do a lot of homework, do a lot of preparation, and take many steps before this "overnight success" - you know, the idea of the rest of the iceberg that is below the surface...?
Btw, before you go. That's what I can help you with. All the strategies and steps that can eventually lead you to this "overnight success".
