Weekly Live Show Recap - Ep. 4 - Exceptionally Irresistible Life Plans - Ft. Chelsea Verrette
21:43

Introduction:

This week’s show was focusing on how life plans can be exceptionally irresistible?

The main issue most people face when it comes to planning life is that either they don’t do it at all or they do it excessively. We often hear the expression of “No one ever plans to fail, but they fail to plan”.

On the other hand, how frustrating is it to those who plan their lives, but then are disappointed with failure or the lack of ability to reach certain goals? Another expression comes to mind that says “Man (or woman) plans and G-d laughs” - many people tend to give up planning because things don’t always go as planned.

The question we seek to explore in this week’s episode is how do we reconcile the two?

In the podcast, Boruch and Yermi broke down the parts of life planning, G-d’s ultimate plan, how we reconcile the two and how we can challenge the status quo.

Exceptionally Irresistible Life Plans:

  • Life throws us curve balls to our perfect laid out plans.

How to set children/adults up to be realistic in life plans?

1) When you set life goals and plans it gives you something to shoot for and aim

  • This presents a challenge of if you reach your goals and you become stagnant, the question then is how do you move forward?
  • Solution: Set massive goals beyond what you think you can achieve

2) Be ready to burn your goals and perception of how things are and how things need to be. Be ready to start over.

  • Be ready and able to burn your plans to the ground and make a shift.
  • #WhatCouldGoWrong

Watch the recap below:

Burning Bridges:

  • If you’re at a point where you don’t want to burn a bridge but don’t want to cross it either think about the fact that the other person isn’t holding their side of the bridge. You’re standing at the end of a one sided bridge.
  • Bridges are meant to be supported on two sides.
  • “If you don’t burn your bridges then the enemy can cross.”

Are there commonalities in plans that people should be looking for?

  • Your passion and interest should guide your direction. That way what you DO can change while your passion remains the same.
  • Identify your CORE values and pieces. That way the day to day doesn’t matter and can change

Watch the recap below:

How to live an IDEAL life?

  • Instead of setting up your ideal life as bullet points, list the “feelings” and emotions you need.
  • Feelings of comfort, satisfaction, etc.
  • You can check off the boxes of your desires but you can’t check the boxes of “feelings”
  • Cast your vision of where you want to be and include the details but remember the feelings you want too.

Watch the recap below:

What do you need to get to IDEAL life?

  • Understand the values, ideals and perspective you have - list them out
  • Understand which of those were “out there” by you, and which were “out there” by external sources (religion, community, etc)
  • Understand which ideal you still want and get rid of the rest
  • Ideals can be misleading because it sounds like a destination you get to and then stay. But in reality, they’re always adapting and changing.
  • Be willing to challenge and change your ideals.
  • Just because something DOES align with society doesn’t mean it can’t align with you too. But make sure that it does truly align with you
  • Be a person that understands what you look like when you’re aligned
  • You can create a list and still change it and adapt. Be flexible.
  • Be a human with changing ideals and perspective - Semper Gumby

Watch the recap below:

Is alignment related to purpose?

  • Alignment doesn’t always have to be related to purpose but it CAN be.
  • Alignment is feeling safe and secure
  • Alignment fuels you to be able to go after your purpose
  • When you try new things it gives you the chance to see a new part of yourself.

Watch the recap below:

How do we get to G-ds plan?

  • If you understand who you are and your alignment, that means that G-d understands you as well
  • When you know where you’re going and you know your plan, G-d comes out THROUGH your plans.
  • The creativity and planning and alignment IS G-d
  • G-d has a plan which is for us to be successful
  • Be in pursuit of alignment
  • G-d wants us to succeed we just have to pursue alignment

Watch the recap below:

Do you need to challenge the status quo?

  • Your purpose can remain the same on generality but change in specificity
  • Chelsea’s purpose “ Challenge Norms and Empower Others”
  • Don’t get stuck in a purpose anxiety
  • Live behind your purposes title
  • It can be dangerous to tie your purpose to your profession

Watch the recap below:

The Bottom Line:

The 3 main takeaway points were:

  • Life doesn’t always go according to plan, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t stop setting goals.
  • Keep challenging yourself and don’t be afraid to fail
  • Alignment and purpose are important - but they should be intrinsically connected to who you are - not your profession.
