Weekly Live Show Recap - Ep. 25 - The World of Good - Ft. Bob Burg

Introduction:

Wow! What a journey this has been. Thank you all for being such an integral part of this Exceptionally Irresistible experience.

For the season finale for season 1 of The Exceptionally Irresistible show, we chose to talk about how this world actually is an incredible place. With enough intention and a search for meaning and purpose, we have so many opportunities to see this world as an incredible place to live in. However, it really does require effort on each and every one of our parts.

That is why we chose one of the greatest people who truly demonstrate this incredible characteristic in his everyday life as well as his philosophy in business and general outlook in life. Bob Burg, well-known for the Go-Giver series (co-authored with John David Mann) talks about how a person that gives exceptional value will enjoy extraordinary results.

Who is Bob Burg?

  • In the 90’s Bob had a book called Endless Referrals which helped entrepreneurs and business owners with a good product or service, learn how to go out into their communities and build good relationships and do business. It was a system.
  • Bob’s definition of a System - The process of predictably achieving a goal based on a logical and specific set of “How To” principles. The key is predictability.
  • All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST.
  • Bob decided to take the “Know, Like, and Trust” premise and turn it into a parable and asked John David Mann to be the co-author and lead writer. It turned out that the early adopters of the book were the already-successful people; those who built their businesses through these principles long before the book was ever published. They then shared it with others
  • The Premise of “The Go-Giver is that shifting your focus from getting to giving (giving is defined as constantly and consistently providing immense value to others) is not only a more fulfilling way of conducting business; it’s the most financially profitable way, as well.
  • When you move from a “self-focused” point of view to being "other-focused", meaning “How can I serve them, how can I help them solve their problems, how can I help move them closer to happiness, people feel good about you, they want to get to know you. They like you, they trust you. They want to be a part of your life. They want to do business with you, and they want to tell others about you. They want to be your “personal, walking ambassador.”
  • People will buy from you only because they believe they will be better off by doing so.

Facing Resistance:

  • Those who are sustainably successful in ALL areas of life are the ones who do business in a way where they put others first.
  • Do business with, and speak to those who share the same values and principles with you. Don’t try to force your views and principles on others.
  • The initial people who utilized The Go-Giver were the already successful ones who were operating that way anyway.
  • There still exists within the business world and workforce those who continue to do business the old way (command & control, with a lack of respect for others), but overall as human consciousness continues to advance the way of The Go-Giver is becoming more and more prevalent.

Go-Giver Principles For Life and Business:

  • Principles for Life and Business
  • Any Universal Law or principle of success applies across the board in all areas of life, whether measuring that success in terms of financial, physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, Social, relational, etc.
  • When you love someone, you actually care more about their happiness than you do your own. This absolutely does not mean being co-dependent or self-sacrificial. It simply means two people caring so much about each other that it's not a matter of 50/50 but rather 100. And when both people are doing that it makes for a wonderful and fulfilling relationship.

Favorite Go-Giver Characters:

  • Bob’s: Favorite character was Gus because he was the connector.
  • Boruch: Felt connection with all of them but really relates to Gus because he sees that that is his role. But if he had to choose one it’d be Rachel.
  • Yermi: Pindar is his favorite because of the fact that he speaks the least and guides quietly.
  • Everyone can relate to Joe, not having the success they “Thought they should have”, but by shifting the focus onto others, that’s where real success comes from.

How To Be A Better Go-Giver?

  • Being a Go-Giver doesn’t have to be something based on faith. Rather it is based on knowledge of correct principles and actions.
  • Being a Go Giver isn’t about putting things out there and hoping for the best. It’s about understanding Cause and Effect. You know that if you do certain things in a certain way there is a greater likelihood of the results you want to happen, and it only becomes a matter of willingness to do the work.
  • Money is an echo of value. It’s the thunder to value’s lightning. In other words, the focus is on the value you’re providing the other person. The money you receive is simply a natural result of that value.
  •

All you have to do is focus on:

    1. How do I bring value to people
    2. How do I impact the lives of lots of people
    3. How do I place their interests first
    4. How do I tap into my true authentic core
    5. How I allow myself to receive.

  • Apply these steps one at a time and learn further how to do these things.

The Bottom Line:

The 3 main takeaway points were:

  • Shift your focus to giving rather than taking or getting. Those who give, also end up receiving.
  • People do not simply buy from you, they only conduct business with you because they believe that they are better doing business with you rather than with anyone else.
  • Lead with value and you will not only be successful financially, but also you will be a lot happier, fulfilled, and find your work and life gratifying.
