Who is Ari Sohn?

  • Left marketing job in 2017 to run a Jewish Community Center in Medellin, Colombia.
  • Returned to Albany, NY in 2018 and worked for his Uncle to help Digitize the graves of 140 year old Jewish cemetery.
  • Was quiet and secretive about his Cemetary work as he was “embarrassed” by it until his moving experience with the stone for “baby Jacobson”
  • Fixed and cleaned all 5,000 graves in the first Cemetary and then began breaking into other cemeteries to repair them too.
  • Found that restoring gravestones was a way to show Jewish pride and support.
  • Ended up partnering up with a Lawyer from England who quit his job to partner with Ari in PreservUs.

Being the Greater Person:

  • You attract the energy that you emit.
  • Share the good work you do as it’ll inspire others to do the same.
  • You have an obligation to share the good you do if it is coming from a good place because it’ll inspire countless dozens of others to do good as well.
  • Don’t be ashamed to share.
  • Get addicted to something greater than yourself.

Living by a Moral Code:

  • Give people a fair chance for respect.
  • When you live by a high standard of morals and ethics it gives you a level of dignity in what you do.
  • Lead with morals…not just actions. That way if you’ve accomplished nothing at the rest of the day at least you can rest soundly knowing you acted morally and ethically correct.

Personal Mission & Vision Statement:

  • Not all the things we are meant to do are we taught to do. We have to take personal responsibility for the things we see that need to be fixed or done.
  • You don’t have to be special to make a difference.
  • Use the tools you have available and start making changes.
  • Work for something more than yourself.

Life Gets Tough - Move Forward:

Three things to get rooted in when life gets tough:

1) Look for something with meaning - for your own selfish purposes. This inspires action

2) Start Small - making a small difference will lead to making a large difference. It’s okay to want to make a big impact, but you need to start with one small act.

3) Combine your Motivation & small action and use it for someone else this will change your life. This allows you to prove to yourself that you have something that others can benefit from for you to share.

  • You don’t become happy overnight. It’s a muscle you have to develop.
  • Publicize your acts of kindness.

The Bottom Line:

The 3 main takeaway points were:

  • Being the greater person means establishing a deep inner core where the foundation is solid
  • We do things because they are right - not for the recognition
  • It is important to let people know what you are doing in order to potentially inspire others to take accountability for their lives as well.
