Connecting With A Higher Power?

  • We are co-creators with G-d.
  • Because G-d is a creator, and we have parts of G-d within us, therefore, we have the ability and power to create.
  • We have an innate desire to create which stems from having a part of G-d within us.

What is a Higher Power?

  • G-d wants us to be in a loving relationship with him. He seeks a relationship with us.
  • We need to infuse everything we do with this relationship. Just like we wouldn’t ignore our spouse or partner so too we shouldn’t ignore G-d.
  • A relationship with G-d is a flow.
  • Serve G-d with happiness and joy. If your service of G-d isn’t with Joy, it’s being done wrong.
  • Tap into the G-dly flow of energy.
  • Every relationship shares the same goal - to have a relationship with G-d, with a higher power.
  • Connect with the flow.

Quote: “If I’m in the river, if I’m in the flow, Then I’m doing the right thing, that’s all I know” - Yermi Kurkus

What is Religion?

  • Our understanding of religion is heavily influenced by our upbringing.
  • Religion is not a separate part of who we are. It’s an encompassing part of our being.
  • Most people are born into a religion.
  • Your relationship with G-d is more important than the “community” or “religion” you’re a part of.
  • You have to have a connection to your higher power that goes beyond the physical aspects and practices of the religion.

Overcoming Challenges with Relationships with G-d:

  • Everyone has their own journey they go through with G-d. And they have to go through it.
  • Take a step forward. Start with Joy. When you start with Joy and make space for happiness and joy it opens the door for other experiences and feelings.
  • Learn to accept your religion and spirituality as your own.

Religion and Spiritual Connection:

  • Religion and spirituality have to be personal.
  • Most people are religious without being spiritual.
  • Being spiritual means “to have spirit” to be soulful - to have a lively spirit.
  • The opposite of having a spirit is being dead - unlively
  • When you meet someone and “vibe” with them it’s because your spirits are connecting.
  • Without putting the spirit into the religion all you’re doing is checking off boxes of the practice.
  • Now that we no longer have to be in the “religious survival mode” we have to focus on putting life back into the religion.

The Bottom Line:

The 3 main takeaway points were:

  • Our connection to our Higher Power is something personal
  • We have to be intrinsically happy and fulfilled in order to have a good relationship with that Higher Power
  • Spirituality is the lifeforce by which we live our lives, religious or not
