Breaking Free of Professional Captivity
Jul 05, 2022* As we enter Q3 - our theme is around breaking free from the captivity of a mediocre professional life. This is the first article in this series.
Introduction:
So many people struggle, heck, most if not all of us struggle. However, we have a choice on how we can overcome that struggle - we either fall victim to the struggle and thus fall into captivity, or we grow and learn from the struggle and thus liberate ourselves and live a free life.
How does this work?
Simple.
Mindset, tools, resources, and support.
Let’s break these down:
Mindset:
The very first thing that people need in order to overcome any form of hardship or difficulty in life is by changing their mindset. Having a fixed mindset will only work against you. Having a growth mindset will help you see the situation or circumstance for more than what it is.
An example of a mindset is: “Life is not happening to me, but rather through me”
Tools:
The next step is to take on proven tools that are specially designed to help us overcome difficulties.
Here at Yermi Kurkus Consulting we’ve researched, observed, and identified three main areas that need constant attention and growth.
Happiness, Attitude, and Character.
When we work on these three areas of our life, we are able to overcome pretty much anything that comes our way.
Obviously, there is never a “one-size-fits-all” approach, and we each have our unique journey in our individual lives. That is why Resources and Support come next.
Resources:
Resources can be pretty much anything else.
Reading books, listening to podcasts, taking on extra courses, getting a mentor, coach, therapist, etc. All these are excellent resources to help you further grow in your life journey - be it personal and/or professional.
Support:
Support is when we surround ourselves with like-minded people, a roundtable if you will. People that are either in the same position as we are in the journey or anywhere along the journey. We as humans have a need for connection, belonging, and community- this is how we do it. When we surround ourselves with the right people that are growing in their own journey, we end up feeding off each other.
Conclusion:
To live a better life, to overcome from struggle, and to live free from our mental prisons - we need to liberate ourselves and set ourselves free by adopting proven tools (Happiness, Attitude, and Character), exploring different resources (books, courses, podcast, and mentors), and surround ourselves with the right people that will support us and be our community along the way.
